Why methodology matters for training rankings

The training and learning technology industry is filled with vendor-sponsored content, paid endorsements, and marketing-driven "reviews" that make it difficult for L&D leaders, HR teams, and training buyers to find genuinely independent platform assessments. We built Training Industry Reviews to be the exception — transparent methodology, verifiable data sources, and clear disclosure of every commercial relationship.

Our scoring framework

Every platform we rank receives a composite score on a 10-point scale. The weighted criteria vary by category:

Data sources

We aggregate data from G2, Capterra, and Training Industry analyst reports, L&D community forums and practitioner feedback, platform-specific user communities, app store and software directory ratings, and publicly available training effectiveness data.

How sponsored placements work

Our core principle: Organic ranking positions are determined solely by our scoring methodology and are never available for purchase. Featured Partner placements are a separate, clearly labeled position that does not influence organic rankings.

We offer paid listing tiers from basic listings ($49/mo) to Featured Partner placements ($699/mo). Every paid placement is visually distinct and clearly labeled. Organic rankings are never for sale.

Training-specific considerations

Unlike general software reviews, training platform rankings require specialized evaluation criteria. We assess content quality and instructional design, SCORM and xAPI compatibility, compliance with regulatory standards (OSHA, HIPAA, industry-specific requirements), learner engagement and completion rates, mobile and accessibility support, and integration with HRIS, CRM, and other enterprise systems. We only rank platforms that meet baseline standards for content quality and technical reliability.
